An update on our little friends

A few weeks ago we posted about our strangely extensive viking collection. Well, the only markings we had for these cool wooden toys was “Brdr. Bonfils” in Denmark, but thanks to keen eyed reader Charlie we learned that these little guys are some of Danish designer Jacob Jensen’s earliest pieces and that “according to his website they were part of a line he did for International Gift Corporation in 1958”.

Now we just wish that we had the accompanying viking ship themed box. Thanks to Charlie for the update!

  4. We bought the vikings online, I (John) bought the Dansk Viking bowl from them aswell, they were great to deal with, plus the website is just so well curated.

  5. How funny — I came here after seeing your site in my stats (the ENJE shade looks great, by the way!), and started looking through your archives…and what do I see? My vikings!

    Look:

They were my grandmothers! She was a lover of mid-century Danish design. (Interestingly, she was my American grandmother. My Danish grandmother – who lived in Sweden – had no interest in mid-century design of any kind!) How nice to have a little history on the vikings, I’ve looked in vain for spare parts in the past (I’m missing a horn and a sword), but never even knew the manufacturer.

  6. Thanks for visiting Anna! I am glad one of our readers was able to solve the viking question for you (and us – of course we only had to live with not knowing for about a week). Isn’t it funny how Scandinavians aren’t as into their design as we are (at least we’re banking on that when we visit this summer pulling an empty suitcase behind us all the way)…
