There’s nothing that gets an apartment feeling more like a home than giving it a coat of paint. In this case white paint!
All the red was really clashing with our stuff so the first thing I wanted to do was paint the bay window and the red accent wall in the living room.

I forgot how hard it was to paint over red… It took 2 coats of primer and 3 coats of Benjamin Moore “Snowfall White.” We were going to go with our usual standby of “Cloud White” but at the 11th hour decided to give a new umm, non-colour, a try. Since we’re north facing we needed something with a touch of warmth, but wanted a fairly pure white to effectively showcase our furniture, because that’s what it’s really all about, right?
You can also see our dining table has turned into Kitka/Mjölk’s new office.

This is the before. It was beige beige. We actually finished most of the painting today but right now it’s too dark to photograph. Hopefully we’ll have some images Monday!

Just think white – black – teak.

It’s looking better already! We can’t wait to get the rest of the boxes unpacked and find a way to get our sofa in here.

a fresh coat of white and lovely design classics just pushes any space into amazingville.
painting over red is the worst. THE WORST. we had a bunch of glossy enamel red trim in our master bedroom that took a few days to really cover. The WORST. Worse than the dark blue enamel that covered all the walls.
BTW – the wishbone chairs are making me drool.

I’m really enjoying watching the progress being made with your store and now your apartment.
Who doesn’t love a good transformation!?

Ugh! Red is such a pain!!! I’ve heard that if you paint the wall grey first, it will kill the red much easier.

okay, i got every benjamin moore, ralph lauren, & behr white color swatch in the store, and I can’t find cloud white… there is one called Cloud Nine, but I don’t really think that looks right…
which brand is the Cloud White that you usually use? BM? Do you think it is a discontinued color? If you have a swatch could you give me the ‘color-code’, then I think they can still make it. Thanks!
Perhaps I will have to return and look again…

Also, what sheen do you go with? Eggshell?
And do you always prime, no matter what?

Hi Eve: Cloud White is Benjamin Moore CC-40. We used it for the whole cottage. But for our apartment we used Snowfall White OC-118, which is quite a bit whiter and brighter than Cloud White. We generally use eggshell when we paint, and as for priming, we did it to go over the red but didn’t for the beige and it took 3 coats…so I don’t know. I think we will prime over the beige and see how many coats we have to do that way…
